One of my favorite things about coaching CrossFit is seeing new members who were frustrated with fitness and bored with the monotony of their workouts becoming motivated by the challenge to learn new movements, to work at a higher intensity than they ever did before and loving that feeling.  Yes, that was me, too, when I started in 2008.  I had been running and doing some weights at the rec center, lost motivation and got stuck in the couch potato routine.  Within 3 months of starting CrossFit, I turned 40  and  was in the best shape of my life.  Now I’m 48 and getting fitter still.

Prior to coaching, I was a professional musician and educator for many years, and have always had a passion for teaching and helping others reach their full potential.  Eight years in my CrossFit journey so far and 4 years competing have given me a depth of learning experiences to draw from in coaching anyone from our newest members to our most advanced. I’m glad to have the opportunity to coach and train with the VIM community, I consider it a privilege everyday to witness our members’ accomplishments, their struggles, their determination, and the support they offer their fellow athletes.

Hello fellow athletes! I found CrossFit in the spring of 2008, and it was love at first WOD (although my body begged to differ). I was fortunate enough to hear the definition of CrossFit in my very first class, “Constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity”. By the end of that first WOD I understood the definition physically, mentally and whole heartedly. I was hooked. Since then, it has been a passion of mine to help others become faster, stronger, and better athletes.

One of the things I like most about CrossFit is that any workout can be tailored to the individual athlete so that everyone pushing themselves just as hard as the person next to them regardless of their experience and abilities.

Hi, I’m Jessica.  I took my first CrossFit class in 2010 at the urging of my CrossFitting Father.  I immediately fell in love with the diversity of movements and skill based methodology.  I earned my Level 1 Certification and began Coaching in 2011.  It’s a true joy to assist athletes in reaching their full fitness potential and witness their bodies and mindset transform.  Before CrossFit I spent my life trying to be skinny and feeling awful about myself.  CrossFit shifted my focus to strength and skill mastery.  Which by the way, is a hell of a lot more fun!

Hi! My name is Mara – glad you’re here! I started CrossFit in 2010 with Jenn in a friends garage gym when my second child was 2, I hit mid-30s and was looking for something active that didn’t bore me to death. I completely fell in love. I get excited to see people try new things, learn something new, and surprise themselves with something they thought they could never do. I love to be the loudest cheer when someone sets a PR. In my life outside of the gym, I am mom to three boys and wife to another. So I enjoy any girl time I can get! I occupy my time keeping up with my boys and their activities and what time is left, I spend as a pediatric urgent care nurse. It’s a great community at CrossFit VIM and I’m happy to have you join us!

Hey there I am Jenn, welcome to the community of VIM! Hard to sum me up in just a few words! I am not known for little or no conversation. I have passion that is palpable for healthy lifestyle not just for myself but every one I have contact with. My other full time job is a pediatric nurse for the last 22 years, despite taking care of others I wasn’t  focusing on myself. So a dear friend of mine saw that I was on an unhealthy and short path of life. So as a fluke I was introduced to CrossFit when I started  I was 100% a coach potato, when anyone says CrossFit is for anyone I am the perfect example of that.  Here I am 7 years later owning a gym, coaching adults and running VIM’s CrossFit Kids (3-10 year olds) and Teen’s Classes (11 and up). My single advice to anyone is the “hardest part is walking in the door”, when you do you will be welcomed as if you were always here! Let’s get started!!

turkey2015-202

I moved to Denver in 2014. Born and raised in Alaska, grew up with a great appreciation for the outdoors, and was active in high school sports. I began working for the National Park Service when I was 19, and has since made a career as a law enforcement officer with the agency. My duty stations have included Glacier Bay, Lake Mead, Blue Ridge Parkway, Fire Island, and now the Intermountain Regional Office. I personally began CrossFitting in 2012, and immediately found a home and a community. I am passionate about bringing CrossFit and general preparedness to athletes from all walks of life, with a focus on law enforcement, emergency services, and military members who must be physically prepared for the rigorous demands of their jobs. Also I teach fitness and wellness classes to officers throughout my agency. I have a Bachelors in Environmental Studies and a Masters in Organizational Leadership. Personally I continue to be active outdoors, and enjoys that CrossFit is an avenue to great physical capacity in all life’s endeavors.
